About

Amel Brahim-Djelloul, born in Algiers in 1975, is a Franco-Algerian soprano opera singer. Amel Brahim-Djelloul began her musical training by studying the violin. She started singing in Algiers, her native city, in Abdelhamid Belferouni's class. It was Noëlle Barker who advised her to come to Paris to perfect her training. She thus continued her education at the National Music School of Montreuil with Frantz Petri, then at the Paris National Superior Conservatory of Music with Peggy Bouveret and Malcolm Walker, with whom she has worked ever since. She graduated from the Conservatory in June 2003. Unanimously recognized as one of the most talented musical personalities of her generation, Amel Brahim-Djelloul is particularly appreciated for the quality of her voice and the rich, sunny color of her timbre. She has already tackled several major roles such as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Angers-Nantes Opera, then at the Lausanne Opera and the Toulouse Capitole, Despina in Così fan tutte at the Nice Opera, Adina in L’Elisir d'Amore at the Avignon Opera, Nanetta in Falstaff at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, or the title role in Messager's Véronique at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. She made her stage debut in 2002 as Pamina in Mozart's Zauberflöte at the Massy Opera with the Orchestre National d'Ile-de-France, conducted by Alain Altinoglu and directed by Lukas Hemleb. René Jacobs noticed her and invited her to the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik for a new production of Sartorio's Giulio Cesare, conducted by Attilio Cremonesi.
