Born to a music-loving mother in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Astra Pentaxia was raised on New Order, Liz Phair and The Dandy Warhols. At the age of 13, Astra was given a guitar for Christmas and immediately began to compose her own songs. Working at a record store in high school enriched her taste for electronic music, but it was not until she moved to San Francisco in 2008 that she began to explore ways to make her music less traditionally acoustic and more digital. Her acquisition of a Yamaha CP 25 and a Roland TR-8 plus the encouragement from musician friends to use Ableton allowed her to produce the reverb-drenched 2017 EP, 'Confessions from the Rainbow Manor.' Shortly after creating this record, Astra migrated her entire life (including her collection of analog cameras and life's work of archived negatives) to Paris, but settled in Berlin in 2018. The move to Berlin left Astra with little desire to play guitar but underlined her love of darkwave. Currently working on a new EP entitled, 'Exposures from the 10th Floor,' Astra has since coined her musical niche as 'maximalist rainbowgoth: lush layers of alto & soprano harmonies swimming in spooky echoes, thick synths and driving dance beats.' .
