Imagine... a Breton fest-noz blended with US rap, influenced by 80s raggamuffin, with socially conscious lyrics—sounds like a dream, right?
To understand the approach of the Beat Bouet Trio, you have to go back to the 90s in the countryside of Ploërmel. On the school bus, you remember the back seats were always occupied by the same three guys. They made noise, listened to NTM, Eminem, and Saïan Supa Crew, and told incredible stories.
They talked about mopeds, girls, graffiti, and hip-hop, in French or in local patois. Well yes, because these three came from the country and spoke a language of their own, somewhere between Gallo, French, and "US English".
In the 2000s, they grew up (though not too much) and naturally, the three became musicians. They sing songs learned from their grandpas, but over a hip-hop or raggamuffin beat. Vanao is on the accordion, T Burt on human beatbox, and Faya Gur on vocals, leading a quirky, intergenerational, 'hip-hopular' dance.
On the school bus, they never did things by halves. .
