Gathered around the sacrosanct triptych: bongo, bouzouki and Farfisa organ; the Greco-Marseillais of Deli Teli take up the forgotten hits of Laïko, music that set the Athenian nights ablaze at a time when Saint-Tropez jiggled to the sound of Yéyé, with fiery energy and a subtle dose of Mediterranean melodrama. Half a century ago, Greek music had a huge influence on the Mediterranean basin and far beyond; the song “Boum Pam” (aka “Bros Gremos Kai Piso Rema”), beautifully performed by Deli Teli on this record, was a hit from southern Europe to India! Far from being exclusively Greek, the "Tsifteteli" has crossed many borders and means "double rope" in Turkish. In the 1960s, it mixed with rock'n'roll, surf and Latin American sounds to give Laïko. With the powerful electric bouzouki (Greek lute) and the classic Farfisa organ, Deli Teli has forged its style by drawing on the gold mine of Tsifteteli/Laïko 45 rpm records produced in the 60s and 70s. The 4 musicians came together in 2019 with the burning desire to dive into electric sensations (bassist Christos Karypidis was a long-time oud player, and keyboardist Arthur Bacon left his accordion on the bench), and took advantage of the "low" moments of 2020 to build a solid repertoire. On this mini-album, they also perform Koko's dancing "Chily Chily"; the vertiginous and furious “Ekso”, the surf-esque instrumental “Vasilis” as well as two slightly more psychedelic titles, “Taksim” (improvised introduction) and “Bournelis”, an original arrangement of 2 compositions by Leonardos Bournelis. Deli Teli preaches a collective, sensual and solar sway on the dance floors of the rest of the world... All you have to do is join the "Tsifteteli Club"! .
