Born in Strasbourg in 1977, Geneviève Laurenceau began playing the violin at the age of 3 and performed from the age of 9 with the philharmonic chamber orchestra of her hometown. She studied with Wolfgang Marschner and Zakhar Bron in Germany, and then perfected her skills with Jean-Jacques Kantorow in Rotterdam. After several international successes and a First Prize at the Novosibirsk International Competition (Russia), she was awarded the Grand Prix of the Maurice Ravel Academy in Saint-Jean-de-Luz in September 2001. The following year, she won the 5th "Le violon de l’Adami" competition and recorded a CD for the occasion alongside pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger. Geneviève Laurenceau is invited to perform as a soloist with major French and international orchestras, under the baton of conductors such as Michel Plasson, Tugan Sokhiev, Ilan Volkov, Kees Bakels, Walter Weller, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Frédéric Lodéon... She devotes herself with equal joy to chamber music, most recently alongside Stephen Kovacevich, Philippe Jaroussky, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Tatjana Vassilieva, Emmanuel Rossfelder, Bertrand Chamayou, Lise Berthaud, David Bismuth, and within the Ensemble Contraste with her friends Johan Farjot, Arnaud Thorette and Antoine Pierlot, finding a communicative fulfillment in the plurality of ensembles and repertoires. Committed to the repertoire of our time, she regularly works with composers such as Karol Beffa, who dedicated "Supplique" for solo violin to her, Nicolas Bacri, or Philippe Hersant, whose work for violin and choir, "Nostalgia", she premiered.
