More than one artist uses this name: 1) Gifthorse, also known as Gift Horse played instrumental, progressive, heavy, haunting, soundtrack skate rock in San Francisco, circa 1991-1996. Formed in '91, broke up in '94 shortly after releasing an eponymous CD. Gifthorse got back together for another recording and a few more shows in '95/'96. Members have gone on to numerous other projects including Doug's work with Bomb and Waycross, Dana in Bee and Flower and Jef's role in Lurker of Chalice and Leviathan. The band consists of Mike Hoover (guitar, vocals), Jeremy Aguiar (bass, vocals) and Tommy Messinger (drums). The band released their debut EP Motorista in 2005, which was re-issued on Lakeland Records UK in 2008. The band met at school and bonded over a love of loud guitars, melodic bass lines, big drum stuff, raw emotion, and offbeat sounds. Inspired by ’90s grunge, indie, punk, and even traditional Altai music, Gifthorse writes gritty, authentic tracks that speak to their generation.
