About Grup Şimşek began in 2014 as a quintet, performing a set of Turkish/Anatolian folk and pop songs, led by Derya Yıldırım’s hypnotizing Saz and vocals. The full name of the band should be "Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek" as Grup Şimşek does not perform without Derya Yıldırım. Since their first EP "Nem Kaldı" (released in 2017), the band has been touring throughout Europe, developing their sound and writing their own compositions. Now performing as a 4-piece pop group, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek have released a handful of records on Catapulte Records and Bongo Joe.
