At the crossroads of electronic music, Afro-descendant influences, and avant-garde aesthetics, Jay Ka's universe is distinguished by its open and borderless approach. A DJ and producer, he crafts immersive sets fueled by a rich diversity of influences, blending electronic textures, urban rhythms, and cultural heritage, notably from Senegal and Réunion Island, where he grew up. He discovered turntables at the age of 16 during a rave party, marking the starting point of a journey dedicated to the dance floor. In the early 2000s, he gained attention on a regional radio station thanks to his daring programming, before establishing himself on the European scene. He has performed in renowned clubs in London, Barcelona, and Brussels, developing a precise, effective, and resolutely audience-focused style. Alongside his performances, Jay Ka has cultivated a solid career in production. After his initial releases, he moved to the United States in 2009, where he was invited to play at iconic Los Angeles venues such as Ecco Club in Hollywood and 740. Back in Europe, he continued his rigorous and consistent production work, refining his sonic identity with each project. His encounter with Alain Ho (aka DJ Yellow) became a source of inspiration during this journey, while his commitment and perseverance led to his signing with the Phonogramme label (a subsidiary of Syncrophone). Under various aliases, including KOGUI, he released a string of tracks: a deep techno maxi-single in 2014, an EP with Paula King (Chicago) on Saft Records, and several productions on As It Is Records, Minuendo Records, and Syncrophone. In 2024, he founded his own label, JKR, on which he unveiled a more downtempo/electronica project under the name Jim Ka Ray, featuring remixes by I:Cube and Aardvarck.
