KESI is a rapper from Nørrebro in Copenhagen with roots in Zanzibar. Kesi started his musical career in 2010 when, at 17 years old, he uploaded his first songs to the video-sharing service YouTube. Here, together with the rest of the rap collective B.O.C., he quickly achieved a lot of attention in response to songs like "Byen Sover" and "Fissehul" (with Gilli). The attention meant that in 2011 KESI dropped out of the Niels Brock Business College after signing a record deal with Universal.
Things then moved fast, and in a short time KESI had released his first single, "Slem Dreng", played at the Roskilde Festival, featured on the Nik & Jay song "Gi' Mig Dine Tanker, Pt. 2" and finally released his debut album Bomber Over Centrum.
The year after the release of his debut record, KESI released the mixtape Ung Hertug, which never really broke through though. Therefore, it was not until 2014, when KESI released the single "Søvnløs" and the following year the album Barn Af Byen, that the rapper truly seemed to be back as a big name on the Danish music scene. This return resulted, among other things, in the DR documentary series Kesi 22 år, which was broadcast for the first time on the TV channel DR3 in late 2015.
After this – with the exception of the single "Habibi" – there was approximately a year and a half break before KESI released music again, this time in the form of a long series of singles, all characterized by a recognizable, festive and joyful sound that KESI created during the period with producer Hennedub – a sound that could also be heard on the 2019 EP 888.
The collaboration with Hennedub also continued into 2020, when KESI released his third album, BO4L, after a 5-year album hiatus.
