About A company dedicated to vocal art in all its various forms, Les Cris de Paris collaborate with artists from a wide range of disciplines, constantly in search of new forms. Working with composers, choreographers, visual artists, and stage directors, they commission and inspire the creation of shows, pieces, and works that are as novel as they are unclassifiable. They perform in venues and festivals dedicated to contemporary art and creation in all its forms (choreographic, scenic, operatic, contemporary vocal, etc.), both in France and abroad.
The company takes its name from a Renaissance polyphonic chanson composed by Clément Janequin around 1530. In its conception—a collection of street cries captured live and embedded within learned music—Janequin's song is surprisingly modern; it resonates with the concerns of any contemporary artist who engages with reality, and with their sonic, social, and urban environment.
The final line—"If you wish to hear more, go fetch them!"—reminds the listener that this is an original proposition, yet partial and arbitrary, aimed at fixing what cannot be fixed. A work that must always be begun anew.
