About

mädmäx (stylized in lowercase) is a German hip-hop producer and beatmaker based in Hamburg, Germany. He is known for his sample-driven boom-bap, jazz-hop, and instrumental hip-hop productions, drawing influence from producers such as 9th Wonder, Apollo Brown, and J Dilla. Active since the late 2010s, mädmäx has released numerous instrumental projects and collaborations through independent labels and collectives. His work is characterized by warm jazz samples, vinyl-inspired textures, and dusty, swing-driven boom-bap drums, creating a relaxed and atmospheric sound. In addition to his production work, he serves as an A&R for Hip Dozer Records. In 2023, mädmäx released Basement Jazz, his first solo vinyl project. The album was inspired in part by Japanese jazz recordings from the 1970s and featured guest appearances from artists including MF Eistee, High John, SkiDs, WOX, and Maple Syrup. The release received attention within the European jazz-hop and lo-fi hip-hop community for its nostalgic sample-based production and classic boom-bap aesthetic. mädmäx's productions blend jazz, soul, and boom-bap hip-hop traditions. Critics and music blogs have noted his emphasis on crate-digging culture, vintage jazz samples, and relaxed grooves, placing his work alongside beatmakers such as FloFilz, Twit One, and High John. .
