There are at least two artists with the name Malaka 1. An East-Coast American MetalCore Band (2010-Present) 2. Some jokemachine crazy dudes from Jakarta 1. The initial idea for this band starts with Steve Rowley, the drummer. He played drums for about 4 years up until 2005 when he regretfully sold his drum-kit since he hadn't been in a band for quite some time. It wasn't long before the desire to play in a metal band came back to him. Over the next few years he worked at a family owned Greek restaurant called My Three Sons in Edgewood, MD where he learned a few words and phrases in Greek. One word in particular stuck out; Malaka, which is apparently the Greek equivalent of 'Motherfucker.' For the sake of its vulgar meaning and general misunderstanding amongst English speaking people, it was decided that he would start a metal band and call it Malaka. It wasn't until March of 2010 that he purchased a new kit and began practicing almost daily. The ideas for Malaka's music were coming to him but he had no one else to work with in a band until he got to talking to his friend Zane one day. Despite knowing each other since 2004, neither of them knew that the other played instruments and were both very much in to metal music. Steve submitted his idea to Zane, and they agreed to jam. The first few jam sessions left Zane and Steve extremely impressed with their ability to 'feel' the other's influence and write quality music. It was clear that there was plenty of potential and they would need to look for other members to complete the band. After getting a new job in April of 2010, Steve met Ryan through work, which is probably the luckiest part of how the band formed.
