Malevolent Creation is an American death metal band formed in Buffalo, New York in 1987 and later based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The original lineup consisted of guitarists Phil Fasciana and Jim Nickles and vocalist Bret Hoffmann, with bassist Jason Blachowicz and drummer Dennis Kubas joining the following year. Fasciana is the only founding member to have remained in the band continuously.
In 1988, the band relocated to Florida and became part of the emerging local death metal scene. After releasing several demo recordings, they signed with Roadrunner Records. Their debut album, "The Ten Commandments", was released in 1991 and is often cited as part of the early development of Florida death metal alongside bands such as Obituary and Death.
The band's lineup changed frequently during the early 1990s. After their debut, guitarist Jon Rubin and drummer Mark Simpson were replaced by Rob Barrett and Alex Marquez. The band toured in 1992 with acts including Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, and Agnostic Front. That same year, they released their second album, "Retribution". In 1993, they released "Stillborn", during which Rubin returned and Barrett left. Around this period, Hoffmann departed and Blachowicz assumed vocal duties while continuing on bass. Marquez also left, and Dave Culross joined as drummer.
The album "Eternal" was recorded with a lineup including Blachowicz, Rubin, Fasciana, and Culross. Following this release, Derek Roddy joined briefly on drums, and guitarist John Paul Soars also became part of the lineup for the 1997 album "In Cold Blood". After tensions within the band, Blachowicz and Roddy both left.
Fasciana subsequently reassembled the lineup, bringing back Hoffmann, Barrett, and Culross, with Gordon Simms on bass.
