Naïssam Jalal

Naïssam Jalal (Arabic: نيسم جلال), born in 1984 in Paris, is a French flutist, singer and composer of Syrian origin. She founded and leads several ensembles: Rhythms of Resistance, Quest of the Invisible, Al Akhareen, Healing Rituals and Landscapes of Eternity. She draws inspiration from African-American, classical Arabic, Hindustani and Mandinka music. Over the course of her 9 albums, Naïssam Jalal has received awards including the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles-Cros 2017, the Victoires du Jazz 2019, the Prix des Musiques d’ICI 2020 and the first jazz prize at the International Songwriting Competition 2022. In 2023, she was named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, and Women of Culture. Naïssam Jalal was also named among the best flutists of the year by Jazz Magazine and Jazz News in 2021, 2023 and 2024.
