About

There are multiple artists under this name: 1) Sugah was an American R&B group composed of Charlene Keys or Tweet, Susan "Susie" Weems, and Rolita White. They were under Devante Swing's Swing Mob collective, better known as Da Bassment. Weems and White were the first to join in 1992 after being discovered by Devante in Cleveland, with Rochester native Keys joining two years later. Devante would name the group Sugah, and became the main female group after fellow members Sista was dropped due to their shelved debut album, and Devante viewing Sugah as more marketable. Being the longest lasting member of Da Bassment, Sugah would re-record their album 3 different times over their near decade tenure, though most of the material would ultimately be unreleased. The group attempted to join Def Jam alongside fellow members Playa in 1997, but chose to remain with Devante after seeing how distraught he became from watching his project fall apart. After years of work with nothing to show for it, and the turmoil from Devante's behavior, Sugah became the last remaining members of Da Bassment before breaking up around 1999/2000. Rolita remaining with Devante as a solo artist, with Susie & Charlene turning into a duet before going their separate ways. Keys would reconnect with Missy Elliott and the rest of the Supafriends, contributing to her third album Miss E ...So Addictive, Timbaland & Magoo's Indecent Proposal, and other Supafriends projects before launching her solo career under Elliott's The Goldmind imprint as Tweet. Sugah would reunite in 2020 with intentions of releasing an EP, consisting of material from the latter years of their Bassment days. This EP has yet to release, and its current status is unknown. 2) Sugah is an up and coming alt pop/pop artist from France.
