The Chemical Brothers are an English electronic music duo formed in Manchester in 1992 by Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands. They are regarded as one of the leading acts associated with the big beat genre and have also incorporated elements of house, techno, neo-psychedelia and alternative dance into their music. The duo originally performed under the name The Dust Brothers, adopting it in reference to the American production duo of the same name. Following objections from the original Dust Brothers, they changed their name to The Chemical Brothers, taking inspiration from their track "Chemical Beats". Their debut album, "Exit Planet Dust" (1995), reached number nine on the UK Albums Chart and sold more than one million copies worldwide. After signing with Virgin Records, they released "Dig Your Own Hole" (1997) and "Surrender" (1999), both of which reached number one in the United Kingdom. Later albums including "Come with Us" (2002), "Push the Button" (2005) and "We Are the Night" (2007) also topped the UK Albums Chart. Throughout their career, the duo have collaborated with a range of musicians, including Noel Gallagher, Beth Orton, Bernard Sumner, Q-Tip, Beck, St. Vincent and Aurora. Rowlands and Aurora later collaborated as the project Tomora. The Chemical Brothers have achieved 13 top-20 singles in the United Kingdom, including the number-one singles "Setting Sun" and "Block Rockin' Beats". They have received multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Instrumental Performance, Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronic Album for "No Geography" (2019). Ed Simons was born on 9 June 1970 and attended Dulwich College before studying history at the University of Manchester.
