The story
Abigail Lapell is one of the finest discoveries in folk music in recent years, and the Les Femmes s’en Mêlent festival couldn't miss the opportunity to invite her for her very first appearance in France. Originally from Toronto, she writes modern, haunting, and magnificent folk songs. Her music can be described as "Prairie Noir" or "Canadian Desert Rock," in the vein of Laura Veirs, The Innocence Mission, or Gillian Welch. With four Canadian Folk Music Awards to her name and following her critically acclaimed 2024 album Anniversary (nominated for the Juno Awards and co-produced by Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers), Lapell returns with a new album (May 2026) entitled "Shadow Child" featuring producer Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain), recorded on Vancouver Island in British Columbia with 9 songs evoking her months of motherhood for a new masterpiece. Let's hold our breath, Abigail Lapell is coming to Paris.
