The story
Any Young Mechanic is landing in Paris! The Australian band will present their modern, cinematic folk at Le Babour Sauvage on October 21, 2026.
Originally from Adelaide, Any Young Mechanic creates music at the crossroads of folk, orchestral pop, and indie rock. Driven by lyrics populated with quirky characters, intimate stories, and imaginary landscapes, the quintet turns every track into a true cinematic scene. Violin, banjo, double bass, guitars, and keyboards intertwine to bring to life a universe as rich as it is moving.
Formed within Adelaide's independent music scene, the band brings together five musicians from classical and contemporary backgrounds. Inspired as much by Bob Dylan and Big Thief as by the new British scene represented by Black Midi and Black Country, New Road, they seek to reinvent folk by injecting it with resolutely contemporary energy and sensitivity.
Their debut album, The Modern Shoe Is Ruining The Foot, was recorded collectively in just three days, with no overdubs or edits. This raw and organic approach gives the twelve tracks a rare immediacy, as if the band were playing right in the room with the listener.
Between delicate melodies, instrumental flights, and captivating narratives, Any Young Mechanic offers a 21st-century folk that is vibrant, ambitious, and deeply human.
