The story
Part of Theatreship's guest nights - where contemporary artists take over the ship to highlight the stories they want to tell.
Here's some more info from them:
When it comes to a new India sound, Ashram is one of the first bands from the east of India to combine live electronica with Indian traditional roots-tribal-traditional tunes/songs. A unique blend of grooves, harmonies and ancient spiritual poetry and songs, Ashram's soundscape is epistemologically an inclusive, pluralist and ever evolving musical approach, where tradition and "the modern" simultaneously. The duo of Arko & Kanishka will take you into a trippy journey through the entire Indian subcontinent, using unique cultural juxtapositions seamlessly stitching songs of boatmen, nomadic tribes & Sufi saints with working grooves of the struggling farmers, tea garden and coal mine workers along with Himalayan ethnic rituals. Ashram in it's essense is about a musical celebration of common people's lives, bringing these melodies together in a funky fabric of today.
