Chuck Strangers

For his 13th birthday, Chuck Strangers receives an Akai MPC2000 and, like any teenager passionate about music, he spends his free time programming beats on his precious gift—without even knowing how to export them back then. It would take 4 years before a friend introduced him to FL Studio—but this period of learning and creation would witness his unconditional love for hip-hop.

Years later, Chuck Strangers releases Consumers Park, his debut album, deeply rooted in the 90s boom-bap aesthetic that shaped him. Then comes A Forsaken Lover’s Plea, his second opus, richer thanks to powerful lyrics as well as collaborations with producers such as The Alchemist, Animoss, and NV. The album references the 90s New York setting without ever giving the impression of being stuck in the past; it confronts history without resorting to nostalgia. Contemplating the path he has traveled, Chuck Strangers also questions what he has become: after years of paying tribute to the golden age of New York rap, he now turns toward introspection, celebrating his evolution and renewal.
