Jake Xerxes Fussell

Raised in Columbus, Georgia, and now based in North Carolina, Jake Xerxes Fussell has spent his life studying forgotten American folk music. His music strives to preserve the musical traditions of the American working class (evoking Leadbelly, old-time music, Woody Guthrie), while reinterpreting them for the modern era. On his latest solo album, When I’m Called, his first LP for Fat Possum, Fussell returns to a repertoire with long-standing sentimental significance, speaking of the passage of time and life's unexpected moments. More recently, Fussell and Elkington collaborated on the score for Rebuilding, a feature film directed by Max Walker-Silverman and starring Josh O’Connor. A soundtrack of the same name was released by Fat Possum Records in November 2025.
