In music, there are voices that seem to belong to another time, presences that belong neither to yesterday nor to today, as they encapsulate multiple eras, suspended weightlessly above trends. Laure Briard is one of these; retro in form, yet at heart, the musician with a career rich in aesthetic turns has all the qualities of a contemporary composer, with that little touch of magic coloring her tracks with an eternal filter. Since Révélation (2015), a tribute to 1960s French pop, Laure Briard has evolved her universe through encounters and travels: warm arrangements shared with her long-time musicians, a pivotal tour in Brazil and collaboration with Boogarins, Portuguese-language EPs, touches of bossa nova and folk, all the way to the Californian desert of Ne pas trop rester bleue (2023). Leaving travel memories behind for a moment, Laure Briard drew an energy from within for this new album, at a time in her life when going off on an adventure was no longer really an option. For Voyage Mental, the musician draws this time on a more internal energy. Inspired by a period of her life marked by motherhood, this new opus unfolds stripped-back, sensitive, and introspective songs, seeking a balance between nostalgia and presence in the moment.
