The story
Born in Ohio and based in Oakland, Maria BC has built one of the most unique voices in contemporary ambient folk. Her music, intimate and deeply atmospheric, combines string arrangements, delicate guitars, and a classically trained voice that wavers between fragility and the spectral.
Following the acclaimed 'Hyaline' and 'Spike Field'—her debut on Sacred Bones—Maria BC returns in 2026 with 'Marathon', a new work shaped by endurance, wear and tear, and persistence. Her sonic universe has also found an echo in cinema, participating in the acclaimed soundtrack of 'I Saw the TV Glow' with the track Taper, alongside artists like Caroline Polachek, yeule, and Florist.
