Parallel Universe – Volume 1 is a bold reinvention of the musical meeting point between East and West. As the first chapter in a forthcoming series of volumes, the album opens up a sonic narrative fueled by a shared fascination with alternative timelines and possible futures.

Between pulsing electronics, MPC-chopped Arabic percussion, quarter-tone analog synths, lush Rhodes pianos, and spectral Arabic choirs, Natacha Atlas and Samy Bishai shape a resolutely contemporary vision of Arabic pop: fluid, futuristic, and freed from any boundaries of genre or geography. Oscillating between dystopian cyberpunk, synth-pop, avant-garde electro, and post-Mahragan Arabic hip-hop, Parallel Universe evolves in a space where genres dissolve and temporalities blur. Lyrics in English and Arabic intertwine naturally, carried by the magnetic voice of Natacha Atlas and the incandescent electric violin of Samy Bishai.
