Sergio Sayeg (aka Sessa) is fascinated by “the mess” of music, “the distorted translations that music undergoes on its journey.” As a cultural cannibal like the legendary Brazilian Tropicalistas of the late sixties, Sessa seamlessly and directly blends musical references ranging from rock to jazz, samba, and soul. Hailing from São Paulo and based in New York City, the artist expands the soundscape he has built since his 2019 debut with his new album Pequena Vertigem de Amor (Little Dizziness of Love). “Slightly more nocturnal, more open, quirky-funky” – Pequena Vertigem de Amor channels the refined elegance of the late-seventies “Música Popular Brasileira” scene, mixed with the psychedelic soul of Sly Stone and Shuggie Otis, without straying from his signature sound of acoustic guitar, Afro-Brazilian percussion, and the dialogue between Sessa’s distinct voice and a female choir.
