The story
The British newcomer post-rock band "Shaking Hand" from Manchester is playing its first German concerts in November and December.
Drawing on early post-rock and 90s US alternative rock, they develop their own brand of Northwest emo. They create something new yet nostalgic. They look ahead to the changing horizon. Shaking Hand's music is built on tension and release – silence that stretches out, volume that overwhelms. Repetition that feels both hypnotic and destabilizing. "The best ideas come when it feels like everything is about to fall apart and we can only barely hold on," says Freddie.
The band's musical DNA runs through experimental guitar outfits like Women, Slint, Sonic Youth, Pavement, and Ulrika Spacek, balanced by the melodic sensibility of Big Thief and the dynamic intimacy of Yo La Tengo. Their compositions break with structure: sudden tempo jumps, polyrhythms that almost fall apart, and riffs that dissolve into something fragile or ecstatic. Yet, as Ellis notes, there is also a certain warmth to it: "Like walking late at night through an empty city and sensing a flicker of life in the buildings you pass by."
