Foreword Just 40 years ago, in October 1986, what was to become the best blues club in the entire country opened at 72 Quai de Paludate. The Cricketers was about to introduce an entire generation to the greatest active artists of the genre, from Junior Wells to Magic Slim. Many callings were born in this now-legendary club. Like Julien’s, aka JD Harmo, who headed off immediately to train in Austin. He answered the call of October 16th and will be present with his band, featuring brilliant guitarist Anthony Stelmaszac, a familiar face at the Cricketers. Already back then, behind the bar or in the audience, others knew they wouldn't stop there. Today, we find Vinz. Here he is at the helm of the band Charb-On, in a feverish and unpolished register. Finally, faithful among the faithful, the natural blues of the Raoul Ficel quartet (8 albums to their credit) will complete a lineup of fervent devotees. This 40th anniversary made us want to rediscover the tension of a room vibrating in unison. The project, named “Les Enfants du Cricketers,” aims to tip its hat to the club’s role and to Philippe Combe, its mentor. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗯-𝗢𝗻 (𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 - 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘅) Straddling Texas and NOLA, Charb-On is a power trio tackling blues through its most electric, raw, and hypnotic side. Nourished as much by the heritage of the Cajun bayou as by the urgency of garage rock and psych-swamp drift, the band's music favors groove, tension, and immediate impact. A guitar/drum setup augmented by a Moog bass and a saturated Wurlitzer, delivering a dense, organic, and unvarnished sound. Their pantheon features Junior Kimbrough and T-Model Ford, the racket of the Red Devils' King King, the primary energy of MC5 and The Stooges, as well as early records by The Black Keys, North Mississippi Allstars, and Queens of the Stone Age. Charb-On doesn’t replay the blues; they twist it, densify it, and project it into an electric and incandescent present. In the summer of 2024, the trio recorded their debut EP, "The Austin Sessions," in Austin, Texas, at Electric Deluxe Recorder—the sonic temple of Adrian Quesada, guitarist and producer for Black Pumas—over three days with a raw sense of urgency: five tracks captured live, without artifice, where the blues becomes a living, sticky, and burning material. From “Thru With You” to the haunting Tex-Mex shuffle of “Loco,” the EP asserts a clear identity: a modern, visceral blues, conceived above all for the stage. 𝗝𝗗 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗱 (𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀, 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 - 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘅) Julien D’Imperio, aka JD, is French, of Irish descent, and has lived in England for the past 21 years as a blues artist active on the London scene. At the end of 2024, he just recently returned to his native country, now settled in the countryside of the Entre-deux-Mers region near Bordeaux. Julien discovered the harmonica at the age of 19 when his father, a blues fan, took him to the music store to buy one of those famous pocket instruments.
