Talisco first made a name for himself in the 2010s with an electro-pop sound tinged with folk, blending luminous melodies, catchy rhythms, and introspective lyrics, mostly in English. His debut album, "Run" (2014), met with widespread success, thanks in particular to the tracks "Your Wish" and "The keys," which established him on both the French and international scenes.
In his fifth album, Setting Record in Nashville, featuring a 1950s and 60s rock aesthetic branded with searing guitars and heady organs, Talisco stays as true as possible to his untamed nature. Returning from "Music city," he delivers "a rough, unmasked record, recorded under live conditions and with live truth.
He states it right from the first track: "I’m a Wild Man." Yes, Talisco has decided to let his wild, animalistic side speak throughout this vintage-velvet, high-tension rock album, branded with the searing mark of fiery guitars. Accepting himself as he is, not telling himself stories. Such was the approach of Jérôme Amandi, a music composer whose image has never been truncated. To achieve this, he cut to the quick: "I wanted to record the old-school way, on analog tape and without effects, in the style of Creedence, the Rolling Stones, Marion Black, and Shirley Ellis. I wanted old gear, dirty clothes, broken faces...
The major difference between this album and previous ones is that it was recorded in live conditions and with live truth, in very few takes, as if all the musicians were on stage in the studio. It's a 'rough' record, unmasked, the one that escapes me the most. I'd rather lose everything than lie to myself," he sums up. Setting Record in Nashville. No fluff, promises the title. Talisco in Tennessee, in Andrija Tokic’s studio (producer of the Alabama Shakes), for an acoustic return to the roots of 50s and 60s rock, carved out of woody or saturated strings and heady organs. Psychedelic rock or southern style, country and folk songs, the Basque artist went to make waves in "Music city." At the heart of the great American songbook.
On site, Talisco broke out Vox and Silverstone guitars, plugged into old Marshalls and 50s amps. It has to ooze, crackle, and feed back. We need to crack the walls we erect all around ourselves. The Frenchman crossed steel with five local musicians, including Jack Lawrence, bass player for Jack White's The Raconteurs. Guardians of the rock temple, of analog and organic texture, before it gets smoothed out by DAW software. Countering current trends, Talisco has refined his message and revised his musical grammar to write a new chapter of his album that is just as phonographic as it is photographic.
