The story
LAGOS THUGS is a new 10-piece Afrobeat band from Lagos, Nigeria, formed in 2020 by talented young multi-instrumentalist Adetunji Adeyemi, known for their explosive live performances. Rooted in the classic Afrobeat tradition, the band blends heavy horn arrangements, deep polyrhythms, and socially conscious themes with a modern edge. Their performances are immersive, groove-driven experiences that emphasise improvisation, audience connection, and collective energy.
LAGOS THUGS approaches each show as a communal experience rather than a concert. Their sets often stretch into long, immersive journeys where groove, improvisation, and call-and-response connect audiences directly to the Afrobeat tradition. This performance philosophy has earned them a growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s most compelling contemporary Afrobeat live bands.
LAGOS THUGS has shared stages with Ezra Collective, Seun Kuti, Made Kuti, Egypt 80 and Antibalas, earning recognition within the global Afrobeat movement. In 2026, the band tours Africa and Europe, affirming their place within the global Afrobeat and Afro-diasporic music movement. Their music speaks to themes of power, injustice, freedom, and African identity, echoing Afrobeat’s historic role as both protest music and a tool for collective expression.
