Clara Ysé, born on October 27, 1992 in Paris, is a French singer and novelist.
Originally from the 14th arrondissement of Paris, Clara Ysé is the daughter of Anne Dufourmantelle, a French psychoanalyst and philosopher. As a child, she loved watching her father, Bruno Dufourmantelle, paint in his studio, and developed a passion for imagery. She began learning the violin at the age of four.
She was eight years old when she started singing, becoming one of the youngest students of the opera singer and teacher Yva Barthélémy.
Since childhood, she has been lulled both by great operatic voices like Maria Callas and by those of French, American, and Latin American chanson, including the songs of Janis Joplin, Mercedes Sosa, Chavela Vargas, Nina Hagen, and Barbara. For her, music is a form of language in which she finds an unalterable space of freedom.
In her adolescence, her mother gave her her first guitar. Her earliest compositions relied on the musical adaptation of poems. Reflecting her French, Colombian, and Spanish family heritage, Clara Ysé writes in French but composes in Spanish.
However, she released her first songs in her native language following the loss of her mother in July 2017, who passed away while rescuing children on a beach in the south of France.
After completing preparatory literary classes at Lycée Lakanal, Clara Ysé pursued a master's degree in philosophy at the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne.
