The story
City of the Sun is a Brooklyn-based band whose instrumental, hybrid, and cinematic music blends indie rock, folk, blues, and influences from around the world. Founded by John Pita and later joined by Zach Para, Matt Fasano, and Marco Bolfelli, the band has built an immersive and borderless sonic identity, driven by a strong emotional and narrative dimension.
Since their debut in 2016, the band has developed an international community and performed alongside artists like Peter Bjorn and John and Thievery Corporation. Their music evokes varied landscapes and deep emotional states, between melancholy, contemplation, and openness to the world. Their album Under the Moon, produced by Phil Ek, marks a brighter and more exploratory return, alternating between desert, Mediterranean, or urban atmospheres, and integrating new disco-funk influences. The tracks address grief and loss just as much as rebirth, with varied collaborations and cultural inspirations, notably Latin and African.
The album closes on a note of transformation and openness, confirming City of the Sun as a band that goes beyond instrumental music to create a universal, emotional, and visual language.
