On June 23, Gonzaï plugs back into Le Chinois for a night where French electronic music stops choosing between the brain and hip movements. Headlining: French legend Rubin Steiner back on the machines, and Lyon's Société Étrange in club krautrock mode for epileptics. Perfect for celebrating the start of summer with a tan line on your cortex.

Rubin Steiner (Fr - Tours)

Rubin Steiner, alias Frédéric Landier, is one of those French electronic activists you can't categorize without getting your hands dirty: since LO-FI NU JAZZ, released in 1998, he crosses formats with the elegance of a DJ who swallowed a record store, a modular synthesizer, and an inside joke. In 2026, he releases Wha would Brian Eno have done, his seventeenth album, out April 18 on Platinum Record. Composed, played, recorded, and mixed by himself at Château du Plessis, the record embraces its tribute to Brian Eno — right down to a cover of Golden Hours — while blending cosmic exotica, oblique jazz, kraut nods, and laboratory fancy. In short: scholarly music that hasn't forgotten where the “fun” button is.

Société Étrange (Fr - Lyon)

Société Étrange is a trio from Lyon — Antoine Bellini on electronics, Romain Hervault on bass, Jonathan Grandcollot on drums and machines — that has been moving for over ten years in a zone where krautrock, instrumental trance, and electronic music talk to each other without going through the marketing department. After Au Revoir and Chance, the band releases Heat on Les Disques Bongo Joe, Carton, and Standard In-Fi. Seven tracks, no chorus, no folklore: cyclical structures, tempos slower than a Stephen Hawking sprint, and heavy warmth on the bass that turns repetition into a landscape. In short again: club music for people who still know how to look at the ceiling.
