At the beginning of their career, seventeen years ago, Holy Wave ventured into a peaceful psychedelic universe, abandoning long improvisations and displays of guitar virtuosity in favor of a dreamy, resolutely pop-oriented approach.
Over the years, the early sound — somewhere between Sgt. Pepper's and The Velvet Underground — gave way to more sophisticated melodies and increasingly hallucinated instrumentation, evolving their music from sun-drenched nostalgia into a brilliantly colored dimension, where the sounds of the past, present, and future blend naturally.
Childhood friends Ryan Fuson, Joey Cook, Kyle Hager, and Julian Ruiz grew up in El Paso, where they cut their teeth within the local DIY scene. Seeking new musical experiences and broader horizons, they regularly traveled the roads of the American Southwest to attend concerts by touring bands that often bypassed West Texas. This taste for travel ultimately led them to settle in Austin, while fueling their adventurous songwriting and passion for the live scene.
Holy Wave will release their sixth album, titled i’m DADA, on July 10, 2026, via Suicide Squeeze Records.
