Inner_Spaces HELENE VOGELSINGER, WASIFUDDIN DAGAR

One of the most cross-cutting portraits of the entire season: an encounter between Hélène Vogelsinger's modular practice and the centuries-old tradition of dhrupad, represented by Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar and pakhawaj master Mohan Shyam Sharma.

Vogelsinger works with modular synthesizers in an almost ritualistic way: her performances are built as slow ceremonies, where the electronic gesture retains a handcrafted and meditative dimension. Her compositions develop through cycles, breaths, expansions that transform space into an immersive environment. Her music does not seek impact, but concentration.

Dhrupad, one of the oldest forms of North Indian classical music, represents another conception of time and listening. Wasifuddin Dagar belongs to one of the most important families of this tradition, guardian of a practice handed down orally for twenty generations. Dhrupad is music that explores resonance, the purity of intonation, the relationship between voice and space. The pakhawaj of Mohan Shyam Sharma adds a rhythmic dimension that is never percussive in the Western sense, but an integral part of a meditative process.
