The story
Meeting with Ophélie Ramonatxo, CEO of the Lyon Municipal Library 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
The BmL, a pivot of Lyon's cultural policy
Appointed in 2024 to head the network of 16 municipal libraries in Lyon (plus 3 mobile libraries), Ophélie Ramonatxo manages one of the flagship institutions of the Lyon cultural landscape. In 2024, 19.4% of the residents of Lyon are registered at the BmL; they have access to 4,085,258 documents (including 75,233 recent acquisitions) and 4,450 cultural and educational events. A chief curator, Ophélie Ramonatxo began her career managing a public reading network in Seine-Saint-Denis from 2006 to 2010, before joining the French diplomatic network abroad from 2010 to 2017, working at the French embassies in the United Kingdom and then Spain. She was recruited in 2017 by the National Library of France as director of the major new site project in Amiens, then deputy director for International Relations. In Lyon, the new director's task is to strengthen and modernize the public reading service, and to lead a new master plan closely linked to the renovation of the BmL's flagship: the Part-Dieu library, "an emblematic project" of the current mandate, according to Lyon's deputy mayor for culture Philomène Récamier.
Every Thursday evening at Hôtel71, a free meeting open to all with cultural or media professionals, to understand our times and prepare for the future. The meetings are followed by a friendly gathering over a drink.
