The story
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25
DOUBLE BILL
"Ulysse Mars is a singer-poet and electric guitarist. On stage, he cultivates deadpan humor, in a vein close to cabaret or even stand-up, to contextualize songs that remain infused with melancholy. He offers a show of sad songs where people laugh a lot. His songs are portraits of the left-behinds of today's 'techno-capitalist' society, told with old-world elegance. He accompanies himself on electric guitar with a playing style heavily marked by Marc Ribot, and on a few songs by a retro drum machine."
Désespoir des singes, a Brussels-based indie folk project, releases its debut EP Distant Fire on February 25, 2026. A labyrinth paved with misty paths, lost illusions, and ablaze plains whose flames are inexorably closing in — a mirror of the world outside —, but also glimmers of hope. With its twilight atmospheres driven by a powerful voice and effect-laden guitar sounds nurtured by the great names of Anglophone folk, as well as artists like Tamino, Désespoir des singes invites us to journey toward that horizon so distant yet so close, and knowing we have no control over it, to keep moving forward — toward the light or the blaze.
