Westside Cowboy, a Manchester quartet featuring Aoife Anson O’Connell, James (Jimmy) Bradbury, Paddy Murphy and Reuben Haycocks, blends raw, lo-fi sound with the melodic precision of Teenage Fanclub and the casual cool of Pavement. Their style, which they call "Britainicana," fuses country, trad, and major-key rock 'n' roll: an American culture digested by small-town Englishmen, with no cosmopolitan polish. Picture teenagers in double denim and Converse eating Greggs vegan sausage rolls. Alarming and exhilarating, their music always retains a scent of joyful chaos.
