Ponto de Equilíbrio

Formed by Helio Bentes (vocals), Pedrada (bass), Márcio Sampaio (rhythm guitar), Tiago Caetano (keyboards), Rodrigo Fontenele (percussion), Marcelo Campos (percussion), Lucas Kastrup (drums) and Ras André (lead guitar), the band Ponto de Equilíbrio emerged in late 1999 in Rio de Janeiro, with the purpose of raising awareness through the language of authentic Rastafari reggae. The following year, the group recorded their first demo CD, featuring the songs "Árvore do Reggae", "Lágrimas de Jah", "Rastafará", "Odisséia na Babilônia" and their own version of Bob Marley's "Soul Rebel". The second demo CD was recorded in 2003 with 10 tracks, serving as the embryo for the album "Reggae a Vida com Amor", which Deckdisc released and distributed throughout Brazil. The songs "Aonde vai Chegar? (Coisa Feia)", "Ponto de Equilíbrio", "Poder da Palavra" and "Só Quero o que é Meu" thoroughly pleased reggae fans and popularized the band nationwide. In April 2004, Ponto de Equilíbrio achieved Gold CD status with this second album, one of the best-selling independent records in Brazil (50,000 copies). With every show, the group has been winning over a larger and more loyal audience. Some performances have gathered up to 30,000 people. The content of the lyrics denounces the social inequalities generated by the capitalist system, calls for a spiritual awakening of love, truth and justice, and mobilizes the people in the fight for their rights. The name Ponto de Equilíbrio summarizes the goal of the group's members: the balance between heaven and earth, the positive and the negative, good and evil; all are faces of the same coin and are opposites because they harmonize that way.
