The story
Album Release: Cokora (KW Label)
Coming from a long line of griots, Guinean artist Kourou Fia was initiated into the kora from childhood by his father, M’Bady Kouyaté, kora player for the National Instrumental Ensemble of Guinea.
Bassist of the band Ba Cissoko since its creation in 1999, Kourou Fia has also collaborated with many major artists such as Ray Lema, Takana Zion, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Elvin Jones, Amadou & Mariam, Jean-Philippe Rykiel, and Flavia Coelho, affirming a musical identity that is open and deeply rooted in intercultural dialogue.
With COKORA, Kourou Fia delivers a deeply personal second album, where the kora becomes a fluid speech, freed from the limits of language. Driven by a subtle fusion of African music, flamenco, and jazz, this opus tells of transmission, resilience, and the transition from an ancient heritage to a contemporary and universal expression.
