Lol Tolhurst

Lol Tolhurst is best known as a founding member of The Cure, one of the most influential and acclaimed bands of all time. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he has also distinguished himself through various projects and as a writer with his memoir Cured – The Tale Of Two Imaginary Boys (2016) and the Curious Creatures podcast.

A childhood friend of Robert Smith, whom he met at age 5 in West Sussex, he co-founded The Cure in 1976 as their drummer. The band embarked on numerous tours and released landmark albums (Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography). Later switching to keyboards, Tolhurst left the band in 1989 following Disintegration.

Based in Southern California, he continued with Levinhurst and took part in The Cure’s 2011 reunion. His book Cured met with international success and led to numerous public appearances.

He subsequently recorded the album Los Angeles with Budgie and producer Jacknife Lee, featuring guests such as The Edge and James Murphy.

In 2023, he published GOTH: A History, exploring the history of the movement through bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, and Joy Division.
